Operations Seasonal Whitehorse, YT $28 - $40 CAD per hour

The Opportunity :

Solvest is seeking multiple Lead Hands to join our dynamic team. The Lead Hand will work as a senior member of an installation team, installing solar PV systems. This role supports other solar technicians to ensure that racking, modules, and electrical components are installed safely and efficiently, meeting company and industry standards while delivering results that exceed customer expectations.

The typical schedule includes seasonal full-time shift work, comprising 40 hours per week with frequent overtime. The role consists of out-of-town shift work, typically with rotations of 2 weeks, allowing you to explore beautiful Northern wilderness.

Employment Status : Seasonal Full Time – 40 hours per week + frequent overtime

Wage : $28.00 – $40.00 per hour (based on experience) + annual profit-sharing bonus based on company performance

Job Description :

The chosen candidate will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks

  • Lead small teams of Solar Technicians to install ground-mounted solar photovoltaic systems at various worksites, adhering to Solvest’s training standards, industry best practices, and product installation manuals.
  • Assist in the installation of electrical scope work such as pulling cable, wire management, trenchwork, etc.
  • Meet or exceed expected task timelines while identifying potential improvements to the installation processes in an effort to be a highly efficient team.
  • Support Crew Chiefs in daily task management.
  • Support and train new Solar Technicians, or those with less experience.
  • Keep the worksite clean, organized, and safe at all times.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Participate in weekly Employee Development Meetings with the Crew Chief to discuss goals, performance issues, and problem resolution.

Required Skills :

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to operate power tools and familiarity with heavy machinery, possibly operating when qualified to do so.
  • Punctual, ready and responsible for boarding flights on time.
  • Physically fit and able to work 12-hour days. Ability to lift 80lbs unassisted.
  • Previous solar or electrical experience would be considered an asset.

Additional Requirements :

  • Must be able to provide own basic hand and power tools and arctic winter work wear (tool list to be provided).
  • Must be willing to work at heights – Fall Arrest Training will be provided.
  • Must be willing to wear all required PPE, including safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed boots, gloves, and Hi-Vis vest.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote communities all over northern Canada by any mode of transportation.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience.
  • Able to provide a clean Background check and Driver’s Abstract upon request.
