Overview

Seeking a compassionate and reliable Caregiver to provide exceptional care for a young adult male in a private home. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with cognitive challenges/developmental delays and possess the ability to engage them in educational and fun activities. This role requires a commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, hygiene, and day-to-day care while also assisting with household tasks as needed.

Job Description:

Duties include but are not limited to: personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing adult briefs), medication administration, PM routine, meal preparation, light housekeeping and laundry, companionship.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise and engage the client in age-appropriate activities that promote learning and development.
  2. Provide caregiving support, including feeding, bathing, and dressing as necessary.
  3. Prepare nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring dietary needs are met.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized environment, including tidying up after meals.
  5. Provide activities to keep the client entertained and support the client’s mental stimulation.
  6. Communicate effectively with parents regarding the client’s daily activities, behavior, and any concerns that may arise.
  7. Must have access to a safe vehicle with sufficient insurance to transport the client to appointments.
  8. Clear Police Criminal Record check (w/vulnerable sectors) within 6 months.

Experience

  1. Previous experience caring for mentally challenged individuals in a caregiving or nanny capacity.
  2. Skills in meal preparation and cooking are beneficial for providing healthy meals.
  3. A background in caregiving or education is advantageous for client development.
  4. Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus, demonstrating adaptability and understanding of diverse needs.
  5. Must be comfortable with and effective at dealing with occasional anger outbursts.

Education/Training

  1. First Aid Certificate.
  2. CPR Certification.
  3. Valid Alberta driver’s license.
  4. Support Worker certificate preferred.

Our client is seeking a long-term/permanent care provider willing to develop a trusting relationship with the client, open to participating in family events such as birthdays and Christmas.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week

Flexible language requirement:

  1. French not required.

Schedule:

  1. Evening shift.
  2. Monday to Friday.
  3. Morning shift.
  4. Weekends as needed.

Licence/Certification:

  1. Class 5 Licence (preferred).
