Overview
Seeking a compassionate and reliable Caregiver to provide exceptional care for a young adult male in a private home. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with cognitive challenges/developmental delays and possess the ability to engage them in educational and fun activities. This role requires a commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, hygiene, and day-to-day care while also assisting with household tasks as needed.
Job Description:
Duties include but are not limited to: personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing adult briefs), medication administration, PM routine, meal preparation, light housekeeping and laundry, companionship.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage the client in age-appropriate activities that promote learning and development.
- Provide caregiving support, including feeding, bathing, and dressing as necessary.
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring dietary needs are met.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment, including tidying up after meals.
- Provide activities to keep the client entertained and support the client’s mental stimulation.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding the client’s daily activities, behavior, and any concerns that may arise.
- Must have access to a safe vehicle with sufficient insurance to transport the client to appointments.
- Clear Police Criminal Record check (w/vulnerable sectors) within 6 months.
Experience
- Previous experience caring for mentally challenged individuals in a caregiving or nanny capacity.
- Skills in meal preparation and cooking are beneficial for providing healthy meals.
- A background in caregiving or education is advantageous for client development.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus, demonstrating adaptability and understanding of diverse needs.
- Must be comfortable with and effective at dealing with occasional anger outbursts.
Education/Training
- First Aid Certificate.
- CPR Certification.
- Valid Alberta driver’s license.
- Support Worker certificate preferred.
Our client is seeking a long-term/permanent care provider willing to develop a trusting relationship with the client, open to participating in family events such as birthdays and Christmas.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
Flexible language requirement:
- French not required.
Schedule:
- Evening shift.
- Monday to Friday.
- Morning shift.
- Weekends as needed.
Licence/Certification:
- Class 5 Licence (preferred).
