What is the opportunity :

Reporting to the Manager, the Audit Specialist, provides active support to both day to day operations and strategic initiatives for the SA&C program. The Audit Specialist will participate in quality assurance of COR / SECOR audits which requires both a review of submitted materials as well as directly engaging auditors and company representatives to discuss and address any challenges or concerns arising from reviewed audits. The Specialist would also be expected to execute a COR or COR Verification Audit on an as needed basis. The Specialist will also be expected to participate in planning and delivery of engagement / training events with ESC certified auditors and employers and carry responsibilities for ESC’s engagement with provincial COR program governing bodies and other industry certifying partners. The Specialist will also be expected to participate in project work and especially collaborative development of strategic initiatives, including the evolution of the COR program in the context of new and emerging safety theory.

What will you do :

• Perform quality assurance checks and process audits to ensure they meet government requirements
• Coach and train auditors by providing detailed feedback on audit reviews, answer inquiries via email, telephone or in person and provide coaching and mentoring as necessary
• Development and delivery of engagement and enablement events and training for ESC certified auditors and existing / potential COR certified employers
• Act as a subject matter expert to support SA&C project work, e.g., audit tools, data analytics, etc. as required
• Engage with industry to support SA&C on business development initiatives
• Meetings and engagement with provincial COR program governing bodies and other industry certifying partners
• Other duties as required

What you need to succeed :

• Post-secondary education that should include coursework in Health and Safety related topics.
• Work experience in health and safety or HS related field and / or professional designation in safety (e.g., CRSP, CSP) is considered an asset
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as MS-Teams (and its business / productivity apps), SharePoint, and any experience with analytics tools (e.g., PowerBI) is considered an asset
• COR auditor, ISO or other international audit certification is considered an asset
• Professional level knowledge of safety theory and practice and safety management systems (e.g., CRSP, CSP designation or equivalent)
• Proven ability in the development and implementation of safety management systems as well as either auditing (e.g., COR or ISO Auditing, etc.) or significant engagement with contractor safety management programs.
• Knowledgeable of oil and gas related industry tasks or operations
• Knowledge of the Certificate of Recognition program and capable of interpreting, explaining, and applying program policy and procedures effectively
• Strong, professional communication skills, adept at engaging stakeholders across all organizational levels and from different types of organizations
• Customer service” oriented in dealing with queries and issues
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Ideal backgrounds / experience include :

Safety Management / Management Auditing;

• Development of safety management or contractor safety management systems;
• Field safety oversight in any oil and gas industry related operation or contractor safety scenario;
• Development & implementation of new methodologies / innovations in safety management, eg. SIF-focused strategy, HOP, HECA, Energy Wheel Haz ID, etc;
• Safety training needs analysis and development.
