We are seeking a Vice President, Casualty Underwriting Professional, for our Toronto office.

Our service approach offers comprehensive multiline capabilities to accounts in industries such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, manufacturing, life sciences, technology, Asian-interest accounts, and professional services. We take a holistic risk management approach, offering primary casualty (general liability, commercial auto), excess capacity, and commercial packages to small, middle-market, and large accounts across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate technical expertise and product knowledge in Primary and Excess Casualty Insurance (General Liability, Umbrella, Excess, and Commercial Auto).
  • Evaluate and underwrite casualty risks, including conducting risk assessments, analyzing data, reviewing applications, and determining coverage and pricing.
  • Utilize underwriting tools and strategies to ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Participate in rate monitoring, market analysis, and develop pricing models for growth opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and stakeholders to generate new business and strengthen the book of business.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and market conditions to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Assist in developing underwriting strategies and policies aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, and legal teams to assess risks and resolve issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding promptly and professionally to inquiries and concerns.
  • Contribute to achieving business targets such as premium growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Engage in training and professional development to stay current with industry practices and enhance skills.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 12 years of casualty underwriting experience, preferably in the Canadian market.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; professional designations (CIP, FCIP, CRM) are an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients, brokers, and internal teams.
  • Established relationships with brokers and agents regionally and nationally.
  • Strong negotiation, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative mindset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and market trends.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • French language skills are a plus.
