Job description

Description:

The Bank's Internal Audit Department plays a key role as the Third Line of Defense. The Retail Credit Risk Management Audit Group is responsible for providing independent assurance over the effectiveness of controls for retail credit risk management.

Project: The position will provide independent, objective assessment, and evaluation of the effectiveness of internal retail risk management controls related to Real Estate Secured Lending’s Program Enhancements across the credit lifecycle (adjudication, underwriting, account management, collections, and provisioning). The incumbent will offer high-quality, value-added recommendations to management and ensure departmental standards are met on all assignments.

Responsibilities:
  • Auditing and Execution: Execute assigned audit activities independently as a team member or Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Assess the effectiveness of governance and management oversight over Real Estate Secured Lending Program Enhancements. Evaluate controls across credit risk functions, including regulatory obligations, policies, risk appetite and limits, adjudication and exception frameworks, risk systems, risk reporting, account management, collections, data governance, data quality, and provisioning. Determine the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, and reliability of internal controls, employing data analytics where applicable. Manage activities independently, ensuring sufficient audit testing and documentation conforming to department standards.
Problem Identification:
  • Identify and assess material control weaknesses, gather facts, determine root causes, and prepare/review audit findings.
Reporting/Communication:
  • Draft clear, concise, and accurate audit findings, reports, and correspondence. Present findings and progress to management. Follow up on open action items or new issues. Maintain good relationships with key stakeholders.
Authority/Decision Making:
  • Work independently within the Department's mandate, with periodic consultation. Escalate issues impacting deadlines or risk. Adjust scope based on initial research and findings with input from the Director.
Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of retail credit risk management.
  • Experience with Secured Lending policies, methodology, and processes, including 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to train and present to large groups.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools like SAS, R, or Python and experience with PowerBI.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
  • Knowledge of audit processes or change management testing is an asset.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
Education:

A graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.

Best vs Average:

The ideal candidate would have experience designing and reviewing Secured Lending policies, familiarity with auditing, and an analytical mindset. Approximately 5-7 years of experience in Real Estate Secured Lending retail credit risk management, knowledge of regulatory frameworks, proficiency in data analytics, and strong presentation and report-writing skills are preferred. The candidate should balance technical knowledge with soft skills.
