Job description

Position Title : Web / Communication Officer

Employment Type : Permanent Full-Time

Classification : Band 9

Salary : $89,713 to $100,973

98,909 to $115,821 (following the signing of the new collective agreement)

1600.00 following the signing of the new collective agreement)

Union : AEU, Unit V

AREA OF SELECTION : Open To :

  • employees within AEU bargaining Unit V;
  • members of the Alliance Employees Union;
  • members of the Union of Taxation Employees;
  • general public.

In keeping with the Collective Agreement between UTE and AEU (Unit V), preferences shall first be given to qualified applicants in the order listed above.

The position is located in Ottawa, Ontario, and the successful candidate must reside in the geographic proximity of the National Capital region.

THE JOB :

Under the direction of the 1st National Vice-President :

  1. Develops, implements, and maintains the UTE internal and external websites, applications, and communication materials;
  2. Develops appropriate communication materials for distribution, posting, and circulating in various media channels;
  3. Ensures that the design, presentation, and content of the website contribute to UTE’s communication objectives and promote UTE’s positioning as a progressive organization;
  4. Provides advice and recommendations to the UTE Management Team to ensure that UTE’s website is current, relevant, user-friendly, and easily accessible;
  5. Coordinates with the 1st National Vice-President, the Communications Committee, and staff to develop, direct, create, and recommend the placement of website graphics, navigational layout, design, content, and function to enhance the appearance, layout, and flow of the website;
  6. Collaborates with the UTE Management Team and/or UTE Communications Committee regarding the development of website and social media strategies;
  7. Updates database information, web content, and writes captions where needed;
  8. Improves the visibility of the UTE website on search engine results;
  9. Creates and monitors the UTE membership e-mail lists, responds to inquiries where appropriate, and distributes UTE web material to subscribers;
  10. Develops, creates, and tests new web applications and databases;
  11. Installs and configures website server applications;
  12. Monitors the web server to ensure efficiency and security and takes appropriate actions where necessary to prevent possible security issues and address security concerns;
  13. Ensures that all web material is backed up;
  14. Researches and evaluates new technologies and products, and recommends their acquisition;
  15. Communicates the capabilities of web and web-based applications and coaches users in their use;
  16. Provides quarterly reports to the National President for the Executive Council;
  17. Participates as a technical advisor to the Communications Committee;
  18. Liaises with service providers regarding communication needs and product development;
  19. Assists with or designs printed materials as requested;
  20. Posts information on and monitors UTE social media accounts under the direction of the 1st National Vice-President or other authorized managers;
  21. Creates, develops, and implements media campaigns including web, print, or video elements;
  22. Edits and posts photos on the UTE website and social media outlets;
  23. Backs up the IT Officer and performs designated IT duties during their absence, such as changing passwords, managing user accounts, creating Teams groups, and maintaining security backups.
