Accountability Objective

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, you will perform maintenance repairs, painting, and maintenance on equipment and supplies in the home. Adhere to all regulations and standards in accordance with the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority.

Background Qualifications

Grade 12 education is required. At least one year of experience is necessary; a background in electrical or mechanical trades is preferred. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English. Able and willing to perform physical duties inside and outside the home, including moving heavy objects and cooperating with staff. Availability to work weekends on a rotational schedule and for emergency call-ins is required.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Participate actively in, and contribute to, the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  2. Maintain the building in good repair and free of hazards related to electrical, plumbing, heating, and cooling systems.
  3. Monitor fire safety conditions, equipment, and alarm systems.
  4. Maintain emergency pull cords and lighting systems, performing periodic tests and keeping records.
  5. Ensure heating and air-supply units are operational.
  6. Perform regular maintenance checks of all equipment and supplies.
  7. Perform routine maintenance and repairs, coordinating with other departments.
  8. Maintain exterior grounds, including salting, snow removal, and weed control.
  9. Perform plastering, painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, and repairs such as removing/installing toilets and faucets.
  10. Keep required records and reports as per policies.
  11. Maintain a safe and clean environment, keeping work areas tidy.
  12. In the absence of the Environmental Services Manager, perform supervisory duties as needed.
  13. Participate in staff meetings and training.
  14. Follow safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  15. Communicate effectively with residents, tenants, and staff.
  16. Inspect fire safety equipment regularly and ensure fire extinguishers are maintained.
  17. Comply with all corporate policies and complete mandatory training.
  18. Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and W.H.M.I.S. requirements, including hazard recognition and incident reporting.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Environmental Services Manager.
