About the Role:

The 2SLGBTQ+ Program Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment at Brock University. The position coordinates peer-led drop-in and virtual spaces for confidential disclosures, providing essential support and resources to 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, and facilitating customized workshops for students, faculty, and staff. The incumbent develops and implements university-wide educational strategies, manages events, and collaborates with various campus partners to enhance awareness and accessibility of 2SLGBTQ+ resources. Additionally, the incumbent participates in relevant committees and fosters relationships with community organizations, while contributing to the ongoing development of a safe and equitable campus for all.

The 2SLGBTQ+ Program Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate student-led peer drop-in and virtual spaces for confidential disclosures of discrimination;
  • Provide confidential support to Brock community members regarding 2SLGBTQ+ resources and concerns;
  • Assist 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in accessing available options, resources, and support;
  • Suggest referrals based on individual needs, including the Sexual Violence Intake Manager, Student Wellness, and Campus Security;
  • Develop university-wide strategies and operational plans for education and training, staying informed on emerging trends, policies and best practices in post-secondary education;
  • Create and coordinate peer-led programs to raise awareness, and facilitate customized workshops and training for students, faculty, and staff;
  • Coordinate and execute remote and in-person events, collaborating with campus departments for logistics and social media for promotion;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus and regional organizations that support 2S&LGBTQ+ equity, including Fraternities, Sororities, and BUSU;
  • Represent the University on 2S&LGBTQ+ matters, fostering positive relationships with other post-secondary institutions and the broader community;
  • Manage and establish new all-genders washrooms in areas lacking accessibility and assess potential locations for future installations;
  • Oversee administrative tasks including managing the Drop-in space, coordinating purchases, collaborating in managing the departmental budget, preparing and providing detailed reports, collecting comprehensive data and providing recommendations to inform systemic changes.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. Education, Social Justice, Psychology, Gender Studies, or Human Rights & Equity);
  • The equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered;
  • Experience in an advisory and support role focused on anti-oppressive analysis;
  • Familiarity with issues impacting 2S&LGBTQQIA+ communities, familiarity with trans inclusive language and relevant human rights legislation;
  • Knowledge of 2SLGBTQ+ on and off campus resources;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with lived experience;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Bill 168, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, etc.);
  • Experience in designing and delivering training workshops related to 2S&LGBTQQIA+ equity and inclusion;
  • Familiarity with social justice issues and intersectionality;
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community, with the ability to work with diverse groups of people;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including effective verbal/written communication skills and adept listening skills;
  • Ability to handle emotional situations and put people at ease, while gathering critical information to provide support, advice and referral;
  • Strong judgment, evaluation and reasoning skills with the ability to critically analyze systems of oppressions and their impacts;
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Training and/or certification in Adult Education will be considered an asset.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280);
  • Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$82,000;

This is a permanent position that includes:

  • Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.
  • Professional Development: Eligibility for the Brock Tuition Waiver Program.

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
