The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach, providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Responsibilities:

The High School English Teacher will be responsible for teaching and supporting students within the SSRCE framework. The teacher will collaborate within the Inclusive Education Policy by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to optimize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in English Language Arts or a minimum of three (3) years of recent teaching experience (within the last seven years) teaching at least 50% English Language Arts, with positive performance appraisals and references

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional development in English Language Arts
  • Experience teaching Grades 10-12
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic)
  • Problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams for early intervention, service coordination, and program planning
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Understanding of developmental trauma and its impact on learning and social engagement
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and strategies based on student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in planning training and professional development for students with behavioral concerns
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' contributions and openness to feedback
