About the client:

Our client, a leading Canadian company based in British Columbia, specializes in building automation systems and has grown into a global leader, delivering innovative, sustainable solutions across sectors like commercial, healthcare, hospitality, education, and leisure.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership in hardware development.
  • Guide the team in the application of advanced technology and engineering principles to meet project and customer requirements.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation and accurate definition of all products.
  • Oversee and direct technology research, investigations, and innovation.
  • Manage and mentor team members, including performance evaluations, salary reviews, and career development planning.
  • Lead recruitment efforts in collaboration with Human Resources for full-time, part-time, contract, and co-op roles.
  • Establish and manage the budget for the Hardware functional group.
  • Offer consultative input into project timelines and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with processes, procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Audit development teams to ensure quality and adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development methodologies, tools, and best practices aligned with corporate and customer needs.
  • Track and report on performance metrics for hardware development efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement and maintain processes related to Design for Excellence (DFX), including:
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Design for Test (DFT)
  • Design for Reliability (DFR)
  • Design for Supply Chain (DFSC)
  • Apply reliability engineering techniques such as DFMEA, PFMEA, and HALT.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering or equivalent experience; specialization in Mechatronics .
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Deep understanding of technical challenges and trends in the hardware engineering field.
  • Experience establishing engineering processes that align with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
