The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres, with a total of 23 schools.

Description:

The Grade 4 Classroom / French Teacher is responsible for teaching and providing support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in French or a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Core French, French Immersion, or Intensive French within the last five (5) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references
  • Minimum OPI Rating of Intermediate Plus
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • French training
  • Experience teaching Core French, French Immersion, or Intensive French
  • Experience teaching grade 4
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic)
  • Problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving, and program planning
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and application of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement
  • Willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on students' needs
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed
  • Maintain and promote confidentiality as a norm
  • Experience in planning and developing training related to students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Ability to value others' voices and contributions, remaining open to constructive criticism
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire
