Role Description:

In this role, you will own the Ads engineering strategy for Ads Targeting products that are critical to scaling our business and meeting the needs of tens of thousands of advertisers – Reddit's targeting products. You will charter ML-backed features that will infer and target highly qualified users and content to maximize outcomes for a varied group of advertisers.

The ideal candidate understands the value that Ads can bring to our users, advertisers, and Reddit. As the Engineering Manager of the Ads Targeting Modeling team, you will work closely with EMs, Product owners, and Data Scientists from our Ads team to 1) set up the vision and product strategy of Ads Targeting Modeling, 2) optimize existing targeting products, and 3) provide new targeting products to reach relevant audiences. Targeting products require rich user, content & advertiser models to match a relevant user with a campaign/advertiser. This person is an industry leader in the ML recommendation, optimization domain & marketplace dynamics with a solid technical background, strong business acumen, and excellent cross-functional stakeholder management skills.

Your Responsibilities:

• Ads Targeting Modeling Technical Vision: Your primary mission will be to build new and optimize 1P and Automation targeting products for Ads Targeting that can scale with our ads business over the next several years. There is plenty of room for guiding and setting technical vision that will have a huge impact on our business.
• Execution & Quality: You will own the execution of your team’s roadmap and be accountable for consistent, predictable delivery with quality. You will ruthlessly prioritize both planned projects and emergent asks. You will coach ICs and Tech Leads on project management and empower your team to execute autonomously. You will identify risks and proactively communicate them both internally and externally.
• Ads Targeting Modeling will grow quickly during your tenure at Reddit, and our engineering managers are directly responsible for scaling up their teams. You will identify your team’s needs, write job descriptions, source, interview, and help close candidates. You will have the support of our incredible recruiting team to bring diverse and talented engineers into Reddit.
• You will help your engineers identify career goals and create development plans to achieve them. You will constantly seek opportunities to push your engineers & managers outside their comfort zone and turn followers into leaders.
• 2+ years of supporting and growing an ML engineering team - ideally hiring and scaling a team over 100% growth.
• Proven track record of building and shipping large-scale E2E ML-based products.
• Experience in one of the following areas:
• Experience managing a team including hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
• Experience building 0->1 products and scaling existing product lines.
• You're technical enough to solve almost any problem your team has yourself, but you prefer to guide your team into solving them.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully-remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with data-driven/informed decision making.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with and growing senior engineers IC4+.
• Previous exposure to developing and executing multi-year technical strategies.
• Passionate about building healthy and highly productive teams and collaborating with XFN stakeholders (PM, PMM, DS, Sales, etc.).
• Management experience in the Advertising domain is a plus.
