What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of Global Transaction Banking (GTB), CIBC Capital Markets, you’ll work in a fast-paced environment where you’ll provide US-based bank clients with innovative solutions to help them manage excess liquidity, provide Canadian Dollar clearing services, and build relationships to understand their capital markets requirements and anticipate future needs for CIBC Capital Markets products and services.

The Director, Relationship Management – US Banks position is responsible for supporting a portfolio of US-based bank clients, acting as the primary client entry point in North America for CIBC’s Capital Markets product offering. You will act as the North American relationship manager for US Bank clients, building relationships to understand their Canadian clearing and capital markets requirements and/or anticipate future needs for CIBC Capital Markets products and services. Additionally, you will work with internal partners (Legal, Risk, Global Money Operations, AML) to mitigate risks inherent in clearing and trading floor business products and collaborate with internal product partners in Correspondent Banking, Trade Finance, Global Cash Management, Specialized Credit Group, AML Group, Global Markets Trading Products, Alternate Solutions Group, and Debt Capital Markets.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client relationships - Develop and maintain strong working relationships with US-based bank clients, with the goal of identifying sales opportunities for payment and deposit products and other Capital Markets products across CIBC. Develop client strategies with product partners to ensure a globally coordinated client approach and act as the key liaison for all client contact on relationship and risk management matters. Network with US bank partners at regional business events, community events, and associations.

  • Revenue expansion - Expand the revenue base by collaborating with product specialists, developing global account plans, hosting internal client meetings, and jointly calling on existing and/or prospective clients. Establish a presence in the US regional market by scheduling meetings and presentations with US bank clients. Take on new opportunities with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.

  • Presentations - Deliver multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different banks. Presentation methods may be in person or via conference leveraging audio/visual and iOS technology.

  • Support - Serve as the escalation point for US bank clients requiring additional support with sales, service, and payment challenges.

  • Collaboration - Collaborate with product managers and their teams to identify and pursue opportunities, close deals, and build strong relationships. Build formal and informal relationships both internally and externally within CIBC while complying with corporate policies including but not limited to HR Code of Conduct, Technology and Privacy Policies, as well as mandatory training.

  • Industry & product knowledge - Develop and maintain expert knowledge of payment products and trends. Maintain current knowledge of the financial services industry and financial markets, as well as the economic and political environment in the US and Canada. Represent CIBC at relevant industry and payment conferences and consistently exhibit awareness to competitive information and its effects on market strategies.

Who You Are

  • You have attained a bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related field . Graduate degree is an asset (MBA, CA, CFA).

  • You can demonstrate a m inimum 6 years of experience in corporate banking or transactional services with strong Capital Markets product knowledge and high level of professionalism. Knowledge of Trade Finance is an asset.

  • You have s trong negotiating skills, deal origination, and closing as well as value prospecting . Strong knowledge of the transactional services business, including payments and cash management.
