Job description

One of our clients, a major oil and gas company, has tasked us with finding a Cost Engineer to work with them on a 12-month contract in Sarnia, ON.

Position Summary:

Experienced Cost Engineer responsible for driving cost control strategies, ensuring forecasting accuracy, and optimizing project budget performance across major capital projects and turnaround events within Canada's refining and upstream oil sectors. Partnering with global stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams to develop enterprise-wide cost management solutions that support project funding approvals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement cost tracking tools using Power BI and direct database integration, achieving significant efficiencies in reporting speed, data accuracy, and metric adaptability.
  • Standardize cost tracking methodologies across Canadian refinery sites, enabling enhanced collaboration, visibility, and consistent work allocation across regional teams.
  • Collaborate with global corporate teams to revise and enhance cost forecasting systems, including developing regional location cost factors tailored to Western Canada.
  • Play a key role in the preparation of cost estimates and capital appropriation packages to support over $108 billion in capital funding approvals.
  • Prepare annual budgets for direct and indirect project costs, manage owner-side cost control, and oversee procurement activities for 40+ suppliers.
  • Integrate seasonality cash flow analysis into CapEx forecasting to enhance strategic budget alignment and adaptive decision-making.
