About the Opportunity

The K-12 Teacher Recruitment and Retention Specialist plays a key role in developing and implementing strategies to increase the number of qualified Métis educators in British Columbia. This position supports the recruitment, training, and retention of K-12 teachers by collaborating with post-secondary institutions, school districts, and Métis Chartered Communities. The Specialist works within MNBC’s Ministry of Education’s guidelines and policies to strengthen Métis representation in the teaching profession and ensure culturally responsive education for Métis learners.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing a teacher recruitment and retention strategy, conducting community outreach to assess workforce needs, and facilitating the creation of a Métis educators’ network to provide professional development and peer support. The Specialist also fosters partnerships with post-secondary institutions, school districts, and education stakeholders to enhance access to teacher training programs that incorporate Métis perspectives. Additionally, this role involves supporting the creation of innovative educational materials, advocating for Métis inclusion in teacher education programs, and providing strategic insights on workforce development. The Specialist supports MNBC’s broader vision for advancing Métis education across the province.
