The Behavioral Interventionist supports youth in their personal and emotional growth, helping them develop life skills, resilience, and confidence. This role is centered around building supportive, trusting relationships and providing therapeutic, individualized guidance to help youth overcome challenges and thrive in safe and respectful environments.
- Key Responsibilities
- 1. Individual Support and Mentorship
- Build strong, respectful relationships with youth through consistent and compassionate engagement.
- Provide one-on-one support focused on personal well-being, self-regulation, and life goals.
- Assist youth in developing and following personalized wellness plans.
- Support youth dealing with mental health challenges, family conflict, substance use, school-related issues, or identity concerns.
- 2. Therapeutic Engagement
- Create a safe, welcoming space that fosters trust, reflection, and growth.
- Use therapeutic approaches such as creative expression, recreational activities, and conversation-based support.
- Encourage youth participation in positive social activities and community engagement.
- 3. Goal Setting and Progress Tracking
- Help youth set achievable, meaningful goals for personal and academic development.
- Provide consistent encouragement, check-ins, and coaching to support their progress.
- Adjust strategies as needed based on the youth's evolving needs and circumstances.
- 4. Collaboration and Advocacy
- Partner with families, schools, and community organizations to provide holistic support.
- Attend inter-agency meetings or support circles when appropriate.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing insights and strategies.
- 5. Safety and Professional Standards
- Prioritize youth safety and well-being in all interactions.
- Identify and appropriately respond to signs of distress or risk.
- Adhere to organizational policies and professional guidelines for confidentiality and reporting.
- 6. Documentation and Communication
- Maintain accurate, respectful, and confidential records of youth engagement.
- Share relevant updates with the team to coordinate care effectively.
- Monitor and evaluate youth progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Qualifications
- Required
- Experience supporting youth in a mentorship, counseling, or community-based setting.
- Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and adolescent development.
- Understanding of youth protection policies and risk management.
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to confidentiality.
- Preferred
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Experience supporting youth with complex needs or in crisis.
- Knowledge of local resources and support services.
- Training in de-escalation, restorative approaches, or behavioral intervention.
- Working Conditions
