Job description

The Hamilton Sports Group, which operates the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club and Forge FC, is an organization with a rich history both on and off the field. The company is committed to creating a world-class fan and media experience at all Hamilton Stadium events.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Marketing, the Manager of Media Relations and Communications will oversee all media operations and written communications for both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Forge FC. This individual will serve as the primary contact for media, lead game day media operations, and drive storytelling initiatives that amplify the teams’ voices across football and soccer.

Overall Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role is to lead all aspects of media relations and communications for both professional sports properties under Hamilton Sports Group. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, experienced media liaison, and has a strong grasp of both traditional and digital storytelling. Work hours will include evenings, weekends, and travel during the season.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Media Relations – Tiger-Cats & Forge FC

  • Execute daily media availabilities for players and coaches (football and soccer).
  • Lead all home game day media operations (press box management, credentialing, media seating).
  • Travel with the teams to manage media access and relations at away games as required.
  • Serve as the point of contact for incoming media requests and coordinate interviews.
  • Ensure team compliance with CFL and CPL league-mandated media obligations.
  • Support internal departments by facilitating media access to players and coaches.
  • Align and coordinate communications across football and soccer operations teams.
  • Manage media access post-practice and post-game on site.

Written Communications – Tiger-Cats & Forge FC

  • Draft and distribute press releases related to signings, injuries, milestones, and more.
  • Write and publish official team announcements and organizational updates.
  • Develop and execute commercial communications such as partnership launches, promotions, and ticketing campaigns.
  • Prepare and maintain game day rosters, depth charts, and player bios for league use.
  • Maintain accurate player headshots and manage the team’s photo library for media kit use.
  • Ensure all communications meet CFL and CPL standards and branding guidelines.
  • Assist in the creation of team media guides and other official publications.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience)

Job-Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced sports environment.
  • Comfortable working with media and handling sensitive or high-profile communications.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, CMS platforms, and digital media tools is an asset.
  • Deep understanding of football, soccer, and the Canadian sports media landscape.

Education And Experience

  • 2–4 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or sports communications.
  • Post-secondary degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with a professional or collegiate sports organization is preferred.

Other Considerations

  • This is an in-office role based at Hamilton Stadium.
  • Must be available for all home games and willing to travel to all road games.
  • Evening and weekend availability required during the season.
