Selkirk Elementary School is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. Selkirk Elementary School is a dual track English / Frenchelementary school Grades K 7 with a student population of approximately 390. Key to Selkirk Elementary Schools philosophy is the incorporation of social emotional learning developmentally responsive practice structured literacy practices and strong numeracy programming.

This position is for a Temporary Grade 2 0.4 Wednesday FrenchImmersionposition.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary education;
  • Fully fluent inFrenchand English.
  • Postsecondary training in teachingFrenchImmersionand / or second language acquisition would be an asset;
  • Recent teaching experience and / or preservice practicum teaching experience in elementaryFrenchImmersionProgramming would be an asset;

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications skills and knowledge but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture :

  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for as and of student learning within an inclusiveFrenchImmersioncontext;
  • Effective classroom management planning and organization skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students parents administration other staff members and consultants;
  • Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;
  • Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way including the promotion of student selfregulation and restorative approach;
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment :

  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerablesector check.
  • To be aTeacherin Yukon you must be certified in another Canadian province / territory first.
  • Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
  • Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.
