The Opportunity:

Archaeological Field Technician (Indigenous Contract)

Waasigan Transmission Line Project Archaeological Assessment Field Technicians

Archaeological Field Technicians (Indigenous Contract) are needed on a short-term contract basis to assist with the Waasigan Transmission Line Project Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment. WSP Canada Inc. is looking to hire Field Technicians to work alongside WSP archaeologists as part of our project team.

Location, Schedule, and Hours

The 2025 field program for the Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment is currently underway and expected to run until the weather and ground conditions no longer permit work: approximately the end of October or early November. Fieldwork will be based out of Thunder Bay and require travelling with the Project Team by truck and by foot within the Project Study Area. All out-of-town travel costs, including meals and overnight accommodations for the Field Team Members, will be paid for by WSP. As part of the hiring process, you will be required to review and acknowledge WSP policies and procedures and participate in our health and safety and on-the-job training, as require, over the course of your contract.

What you can expect to do here:

Under the direction of WSP’s archaeologists, Field Technicians may be responsible for:

  • Completing shovel test pit survey, involving manual excavation of test pits with a shovel, screening of soils through wire mesh to identify artifacts, and backfilling test pits.
  • Hiking with equipment from the truck to survey sites.
  • Working in the boreal forest.
  • Being involved in Health and Safety meetings and discussions and implementing safe work practices.
