Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA) in Home Health provides occupational therapy services to patients in their homes, aiming to restore their physical abilities. Duties are performed in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established care plan.

  • Follow all state laws related to occupational therapy in home care, adhering strictly to the treatment plan set by the supervising OT.
  • Instruct and assist patients with evidence-based treatments within the scope of practice and legal regulations.
  • Observe, document, and report patient responses and condition changes to the supervising OT, nurse, and/or physician. Coordinate care with the healthcare team as needed.
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members about therapy techniques within your scope of practice.
Education and Experience

License Requirements

  • Current OTA licensure in the state of practice
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle or transportation

Additional State Requirements

  • Alabama: Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
