Qualifications
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sectors check
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in occupational therapy
  • Current licensing with the N.S. College of Occupational Therapists
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English
  • Experience working with seniors is an asset
Responsibilities
  • Formulate treatment plans for residents based on identified problems and goals
  • Communicate treatment plans and provide the necessary instruction to staff
  • Modify and revise treatment plans as required
  • Chart and maintain progress notes
  • Assist nursing and medical personnel, family and outside resources to meet residents' needs
  • Recommend equipment that is required for therapeutic purposes to maximize resident comfort, independence and safety
  • Provide functional feeding assessments
  • Order and maintain therapeutic equipment by monitoring inventory and in-servicing new equipment as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning residents, staff and organizational information and data
  • Follow up on prescriptions from external occupational therapists when new residents are admitted
  • Communicate with Red Cross regarding ordering prescribed equipment and delivery and retrieval of equipment from Red Cross storage
