Job description

The successful candidate will work as part of the MEMS Brownfield Assessment and Development (BAD) service group and support the Reclamation and Construction service group as needed. The role involves preparing and executing site assessments, remediation, and reclamation projects. Responsibilities include assessing projects according to BC Environment contaminated sites regulation, conducting Detailed Site Assessments, Stage 2/Phase 2 ESAs, supervising reclamation projects, and preparing technical reports for clients across Western Canada. This full-time position involves a mix of office (20%) and field work (80%) in a demanding consultative environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Planning, managing, and implementing field programs; evaluating data; preparing reports; ensuring quality assurance and control.
  2. Seeking mentorship from senior Environmental Scientists – Field Leads to build skills with the goal of becoming an Environmental Scientist – Field Lead.
  3. Meeting all client safety, reporting, and field execution requirements.
  4. Organizing field data, interpreting lab results, maps, survey plans, and air photos.
  5. Synthesizing published and site-specific information to interpret site conditions and develop reclamation conceptual site models.
  6. Conducting field programs such as vegetation monitoring, ESA site visits, detailed site assessments, groundwater sampling, remediation, and reclamation projects.
  7. Completing file reviews and environmental assessment reports, including remediation and reclamation certificates.
  8. Applying current regulatory criteria, including the 2010 Reclamation Criteria, Alberta Tier 1/2 Guidelines, BC Contaminated Sites Regulation, and BC ER Certificate of Restoration.
  9. Working with contractors, tracking expenses, and reporting change orders.
  10. Collaborating with senior risk assessment staff to develop site management strategies.
  11. Communicating effectively with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  12. Mentoring staff on field work, supervising contractors, data collection, documentation, and safety/system compliance; preparing cost estimates and reports.
  13. Performing other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
  • Experience managing site assessments and reclamation in the oil and gas industry.
  • Eligibility for membership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Knowledge of reclamation criteria and remediation guidelines.
  • Familiarity with BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and BC Certificate of Restoration process.
  • Understanding of reclamation certificate applications and related practices.
  • Ability to meet site access requirements, including drug, alcohol, and fitness testing.
  • A valid, non-GDL Class 5 Driver's license.
Other Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of agriculture, forestry, and oilfield practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience operating vehicles and equipment like ATVs and trailers.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Strong safety attitude.
Working Conditions:
  • Approximately 80% of work time at client sites, including remote locations, with trips lasting 1-10 days.
  • Office and field work, including carrying sampling equipment.
  • Extended sitting, computer use, and manual dexterity required.
  • Long hours, occasional outside work, varying shifts, including evenings and nights.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, grasp, lift up to 30 kg, and perform repetitive movements.
Pay Transparency - British Columbia:

Salary Range: $25.00 - $40.00/hour for Northern BC positions, based on experience and location.
