Job description

Hours : Teaching is normally scheduled between 8 : 00am and 10 : 00pm, Monday to Friday. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, workload may be up to 44 hours per week.

Home Campus : Fennell and IAHS

Rate of Pay : $73,079 - $126,689 per year

Start Rate : Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the step within the range as per the Collective Agreement.

Closing Date : July 19th, 2024 at 7 : 00pm EST

Consideration will be given to qualified internal full-time academic and partial load employees first, in accordance with the Collective Agreement requirements.

Mohawk’s Department of Allied Health involves 7 programs : Massage Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Pre-Health, Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physiotherapist Assistant, Canadian Health Care for Foreign Trained Professionals, Cardiovascular Technology, and Pharmacy Technician.

We are currently seeking a full-time Professor to join our team of innovative, motivated and passionate educators. Mohawk College is committed to responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commissionof Canada’s Calls to Action by increasing the number of Indigenous Faculty in Allied Health who can teach core and non-core course content in multiple program areas.

What you’ll be doing :

  • Delivering student-centered instruction by establishing environments conducive to learning and growth.
  • Promoting student success by identifying their strengths, learning styles and areas for development.
  • Participating in reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Teaching a variety of courses in Allied Health, including INDS 10012 Indigenous Culture and Multiculturalism, and HSCI 10171 Anatomy & Physiology, which are taught in multiple program areas including Cardiovascular Technology, Canadian Health Care, Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician.
  • Designing instruction through curriculum, simulation and practicums, across several programs of study working with a diverse group of faculty experts.
  • Enhancing educational delivery through the use of technology and use of a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including online learning.
  • Participating in program quality assurance activities.
  • Participating in program, divisional and college-wide recruitment and marketing activities.
  • Create a positive learning and working environment for students and colleagues.
  • Use a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.

What you’ll bring to the role :

  • Degree in a field of study related to Allied Health; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of current, diverse experience of working in a health care setting that includes Indigenous communities and / or client groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous-focused policies as related to social determinants of health.
  • Indigenous identity and connections to First Nations, Metis, or Inuit communities would be an asset.
  • Previous post-secondary level teaching experience in an academic environment is preferred.
  • Proven experience with curriculum design and evaluation, and development of learning outcomes.
  • Evidence of ongoing and relevant professional development and scholarly work.
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of an academic team.
  • Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
