Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.

  • Perinatal roles require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course; or (b) at least 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal positions.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, the multidisciplinary team, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement care plans.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Operate relevant equipment.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
