The City of Belleville seeks a City Clerk to lead a new team, manage legislative responsibilities, and oversee municipal elections. Belleville is a city of approximately 55,000 residents, located along the Bay of Quinte in southeastern Ontario. Situated between Toronto and Montreal and just under an hour from the U.S. border, the city is at the heart of a vibrant region. As demographic growth is expected over the next decade, this role is vital in shaping the community’s future. The City Clerk will provide expert advice and leadership to a newly established team, fostering innovation and efficiency during this period of change. Reporting to the Director of People and Corporate Services, the City Clerk will support City Council and its committees/boards, managing legislative, regulatory, and local by-law responsibilities.
The role also includes overseeing statutory duties, serving as the Returning Officer for municipal elections, administering the Marriage Act, managing corporate records, and overseeing departmental functions such as budget management.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and strategic leader with a strong background in municipal election processes and clerk responsibilities.
