Job description

Description

You are a professional and experienced AME holding an M or E license (or a combination of the two) seeking the next step in your career. Your resilience and positive attitude along with your demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills will see you succeed in this role.

As the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Crew Chief, you will be responsible for providing direction and supervision to AMEs and Apprentices to ensure the maintenance crew performs activities as planned in conjunction with the Maintenance Controller. Additionally, you will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft listed in the Summit Air Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO), and carry out certification of the aircraft for flight (maintenance release).

Responsibilities:
  1. Plan, direct, and oversee activities of the maintenance crew, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and practices, while leading the team to promote a safe and respectful working environment.
  2. Lead and mentor apprentices and mechanics, including conducting regular performance reviews, and ensuring all maintenance alerts and memos are read, understood, and followed.
  3. Communicate and liaise with maintenance, flight crew, and dispatch teams as required.
  4. Perform all maintenance activities in accordance with applicable standards of airworthiness, ensuring all paperwork for assigned tasks is complete and accurate before handing back to the Crew Chief.
  5. Identify potential Service Difficulty Report (SDR) situations and report to the Maintenance Controller.
  6. Troubleshoot faulty systems to determine rectification courses and conduct hangar clean-up.
  7. Carry out the applicable maintenance release of an aircraft as authorized by their individual Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA).
  8. Travel with an aircraft and apprentice/mechanic if assigned away from base for an extended period.
  9. Act as temporary Maintenance Controller if instructed by the Director of Maintenance.
Requirements:
  1. Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed AME, preferably with larger aircraft.
  2. Possess Transport Canada AME M or E license or a combination, with the ability to hold ACA.
  3. Hold necessary endorsements for the type of aircraft on which crews will work.
  4. Experience with ATR42/72, DHC-8, BAE146, RJ85/100, D228 aircraft is an asset.
  5. Ability to supervise and train AMEs, including fostering apprentices towards attaining an AME license.
  6. Attention to detail, with proven ability to prioritize and multi-task, and strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  7. Proven observational, decision-making, and time management skills, including efficient computer skills.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster a positive, goal-oriented work culture.
Working Conditions
  • Nightshift/Dayshift – 14 days on, 14 days off, from 5 pm to 5 am or 5 am to 5 pm.
  • Based in Yellowknife, NT.
