Required Abilities, Qualifications, and Experience
- Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Successful experience teaching K to 5.
- Coursework or degree in Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field would be an asset.
- Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrated successful experience in teaching all components of a well-rounded, balanced, and effective Physical Education program at the elementary level including Dance, Gymnastics, and Outdoor Pursuits.
- Ability to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessment practices in Physical Education to measure and monitor student progress effectively.
- Demonstrated ability and proven experience of excellent classroom management, including creating an optimal learning environment where all students feel connected and that they belong.
- Evidence of developing equitable learning opportunities to meet the diverse academic, cultural, developmental, socio-emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
- Proven experience in integrating the First People Principles of Learning into instructional approach and relationship building.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage a preparation time schedule that requires excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a grade group team, as well as be a positive contributor to the school team.
- Evidence of promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity within the entire school community.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and build connections with students, staff, and parents.
- A current First-Aid and CPR certificate.
