As a member of the Hedgehogs, you would join a collaborative, energetic and passionate team with global reach. We build advanced power metering products such as the ION8650, ION9000 and PM8000 which are used by utilities and industries around the world. Description of the Position

We are seeking a motivated new graduate Mechanical Engineer to join the Hedgehogs. As a member of the team, your work is planned in multi-week sprints in alignment with business needs and in collaboration with team members, Scrum Master, Product Owner and of course yourself. Your workload is maintained at a sustainable level, supported by your Scrum Master.

The responsibility of the team is bounded to the physical aspects of our advanced metering product lineup, such as:

  1. Mechanical design,
  2. Schematic design and PCB layout,
  3. PCBA testing and product testing,
  4. Certification,
  5. Release management and plant support.

Our products leverage a diverse range of mechanical skills, including:

  1. Product design and architecture using 3D modelling for injection moulded parts, sheet metal parts, printed circuit boards and cable assemblies.
  2. Selection and integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts into products.
  3. Design validation and iteration through rapid prototyping.
  4. Product testing for design qualification, covering accuracy and environmental testing.
  5. Collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams.
  6. Engagement with suppliers for parts sourcing and technical issue resolution.
  7. Taking products to market and providing support throughout their lifecycle.

As a team member, you leverage your areas of expertise in addition to learning new skills to support the team and advance the business. The desired areas of competency are not prescriptive, and are better illustrated by the scenarios below:

  1. An active project requires updates to the plastic housing and outlines for the PCBs. Several new features have also been requested by Marketing based on customer feedback. Additionally, new design guidelines from the Industrial Design group have been released. You will need to integrate these changes into the new product design and offer options. Once a path is agreed upon, you will need to support your team members working on the electrical design while iterating the mechanical design. The design documents should be maintained in the corporate design toolset and, once ready, released following the mechanical design process.
  2. Design and construct various assemblies and commission the mechanics for test fixtures that will simulate a production test environment. These fixtures will be utilized by the team for pre-production product testing, thereby enhancing the likelihood of success and facilitating iterative development.

Additionally, opportunities will arise in alignment with your expertise or areas of interest. During the sprint planning ceremony, you can offer to take these opportunities in the capacity that helps the team. The team supports a broad range of products, so the future of our backlog is often difficult to predict. What is certain: the backlog will evolve to the needs of the business. New and exciting challenges often surface, so we value team members willing to take on a wide array of challenges.
