Job Description:

Principal Highway Design Engineer

Abu Dhabi, UAE

What You'll Be Doing:

• Review and provide input on designs, technical specifications and submittals ensuring compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards and constructability considerations.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, design and construction conflicts, and interface issues related to roads and highways across various projects.
• Review and assess temporary traffic management plans (TTMP) submitted by contractors for multiple project sites.
• Ensure traffic detours are safe, efficient and compliant with regulatory requirements minimizing disruptions to road users.
• Provide technical guidance and design clarifications to construction teams during project execution.
• Work closely with project teams to identify and mitigate risks related to design execution, construction phasing and traffic impacts.
• Assist in value engineering initiatives to optimize design solutions and enhance project efficiency.
• Coordinate with Integrate Transport Centre (ITC), road authorities, project teams and other stakeholders to ensure project approvals and compliance with legal frameworks.
• Facilitate workshops and technical meetings to align stakeholders on key design and execution challenges.
• Collaborate with road authorities, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are fully integrated into the project design and execution phases.
• Support the PMC team in reporting project progress, design challenges and mitigation strategies.
• Provide input on change management processes, ensuring design modifications align with project objectives and budgets.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation or a related discipline from a reputable institution.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in design management for roads, interchange and major highways.
• Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating between infrastructure, utilities, landscape and structural elements.
• In-depth knowledge of international and Abu Dhabi standards and requirements.
• Prior experience with Abu Dhabi Authorities’ approvals and regulatory processes is ideal.
• Experience in reviewing and implementing temporary traffic management plans for large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including government entities, contractors and design consultants.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management capabilities.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads.
• Experience with BIM processes and digital design coordination is preferred.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, technical documentation and communication skills.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project).
