Position Purpose
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Clubhouse Services, the
Director of School-Based Clubs serves as a substitute for School-Based leadership when a team member is out of office. BGCSF’s school-based services ensure students have strong academic instruction, wrap-around services, and extracurricular activities.
The framework for the partnership is built on the following objectives: Student Access and Opportunities, Student Engagement and Development, and Faculty Support. Goals include increasing student engagement and connection to school-based clubs, providing non-academic skill-building opportunities, offering youth development opportunities and prosocial experiences for students on campus, and supporting teachers to invest more energy in academic needs.
The Director of School-Based Clubs is expected to provide high-level leadership and oversight. This position supports team management, program delivery, outcome measurement, strategic partnerships, risk management, and fiscal management. The Director of School-Based Clubs is key to ensuring Club emergency and crisis management plans, opening/closing procedures, facility use agreements, safety and risk assessments, incident reporting, vehicle maintenance, volunteer management, and strong front desk protocols are in place and being followed.
This position is a full-time, in person and hands-on role, supporting School-Based Clubs across San Francisco. This position is benefits-eligible.
Requirements
KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):
Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations: 45%
- Responsible for the successful development and maintenance of school partnerships.
- Work closely with the Site Directors and School-Based leadership to establish ongoing school-day and after-school programming for students.
- Ensure and promote program visibility within the schools and within Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.
- Develop, assess, and maintain Clubhouse partnerships that lead to increased average daily attendance, deepening and/or diversity of programs, and/or an increase in capacity through effective use of partner agencies or volunteers.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with all school stakeholders.
Leadership/Management: 25%
- Reinforce BGCSFs values within School-Based Clubhouses and in the community.
- Develop, model, and re-enforce a strong School-Based Clubhouse culture with staff and youth members.
- Coach and supervise Site Directors; work with BGCSF to provide Site Directors and their staff with opportunities for professional development.
- Provide the leadership needed to tackle all day-to-day issues related to the partnership.
- Support implementation of strong risk management procedures, including ensuring that the School-Based Clubhouses are adhering to organizational expectations for closing procedures, safe ratios, facility and vehicle maintenance, etc.
- Ensure School-Based Clubs are adhering to high standards of maintenance, safety, and cleanliness.
- Execute plans as needed to ensure the Clubhouse is meeting the goals outlined in BGCSF’s strategic plan.
- Create space for School-Based Site Directors to share best practices.
- Partner with HR to recruit, screen, and hire staff when necessary.
Program Facilitation and Oversight: 15%
- Maintain monthly conversations with school leadership.
- Ensure all programs at School-Based Clubs meet the standard of BGCSF.
- Support School-Based Clubs in time of leadership transitions.
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure full compliance with the SF Department of Children, Youth & their Families (DCYF), San Francisco Beacon Initiative, and ExCEL policies and procedures.
- Train Site Directors and Club staff on ExCEL and BGCSF systems and best practices
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the Club’s 360-degree evaluation process (i.e. parent surveys, youth evaluations and self-evaluations from staff team) for the Clubhouse to assess youth development practices.
Administrative: 15%
- Provide program and data updates to BGCSF and school administrators.
- Respond promptly and professionally to all program and information inquiries.
- Ensure accurate and timely collection of attendance and participation data and ensure it is entered into BGCSF’s data management system.
- Track outcomes against stated goals.
- Ensure budgets and expenditures are tracked accurately
- Support completion of service contracts and MOU’s for all School-Based Clubs.
- Complete other duties as deemed necessary by the Vice President of Club Services.
- Always, maintain a professional appearance and manner that is reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.
Required Skills
- Five years of experience in a leadership capacity at a large, youth serving non-profit, with proven success in staff management, operations and community relations - strongly prefer experience with an inner-city Boys & Girls Club or other inner-city community-based organization.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.
- Familiarity and experience working in or with schools and with community based organizations.
- Experience managing a team of youth development professionals.
- Ability to drive and possess a clean driving record.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to multi-task and successfully handle competing deadlines and priorities
- Ability to pass a background check and TB test clearance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Red Cross/CPR certification (or within 90 days of employment).
Preferred Skills
- Multilingual language skills
- Experience with an inner-city Boys & Girls Club or other inner-city community-based organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
- Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.
Pay
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependent on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $85,000 - $90,000.
