Job summary

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board invites applications for a

LINDSAY EDUCATION CENTRE

This permanent, full-time (12 month) position is starting effective immediately, this position is replacing a current position.

Job Function :

As a member of the Payroll team, this position shares the responsibility of ensuring a confidential, high level of service to employees. Specifically, the position is responsible for processing of bi-weekly payroll and the preparation, entry and audit of employee data in the computerized payroll system, as well as the responsibility for the maintenance of records related to the payroll function.

Duties of the position include :

  • Upload & audit time sheets and attendance; ensuring all are complete and accurate;
  • Verify, review & create staffing notifications; ensure correct pay & salary adjustments, deductions (LTD, pensions, union & tax exemptions), accruals and banking changes;
  • Calculate and enter / upload manual payroll adjustments including statutory holiday pay, benefits (LTD, pension), retro pay, terminations, etc.;
  • Remit payments to third party stakeholders;
  • Ensure compliance with Collective Agreements and Government Legislation;
  • Issue Records of Employment as required and verification of earnings with Service Canada;
  • Issue TD1's annually and update payroll exemptions as required;
  • Assist with monthly and year-end balancing;
  • Frequent verbal and written communication with employees, managers, government agencies and Unions;
  • Develop reports for various departments as requested by the Payroll Supervisor or designate;
  • Assume responsibility for additional payrolls in the case of absence or time restraints;
  • Other payroll duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required :

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma plus a two-year (2) college diploma in payroll, accounting and / or business administration;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous payroll experience; preferably with collective agreements and pensions experience;
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Certification from National Payroll Institute (NPI), is preferred;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced work environment with strict adherence to deadlines, extended periods of concentration with strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent organizational skills with flexibility to handle last minute changes and issues;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and technical skills specifically working with computerized payroll systems, Excel, Word, Gmail, Google sheets, and Atrieve;
  • Able to work independently and as part of departmental and cross departmental teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to use judgment and discretion when handling a large volume of confidential information.

Hours of Work : 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Location : Lindsay Education Centre

Hourly Wage : $33.87 (min) to $39.68 (max)

Point Band : 12 (Unionized Position)
