Purpose
Responsible for teaching and learning, research, community engagement, and supporting the department/school in achieving its academic objectives. Responsibilities may include curriculum development, student academic development, administration, quality assurance, and academic management to contribute to the department's initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD/Doctorate in relevant discipline.
- At least five years of relevant experience, including 3 years in Higher Education.
- Evidence of ongoing research output such as publications in DHET-accredited journals and peer-reviewed conferences.
- Involvement in discipline-related activities including community engagement.
- Active participation in higher education workshops and forums.
- Consistent research productivity evidenced by publications, conference presentations, scholarly books, external research funding, citations, and NRF rating if available.
- Development and presentation of a reflective teaching portfolio covering teaching approach, curriculum contributions, learning materials, pedagogy, mentoring, supervision, and scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Active involvement in discipline or departmental activities, community engagement, external examining/moderating at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Develop work schemes collaboratively.
- Research and implement new teaching approaches and technology.
- Prepare teaching media and supplementary notes.
- Select reference materials and update course content regularly.
Research
- Lead research studies.
- Publish findings and stay updated with professional literature.
- Seek research grants.
Community Engagement
- Participate in community initiatives and integrate them into the curriculum.
- Report on professional and community activities.
Curriculum Development and Accreditation
- Contribute to curriculum development and review.
- Ensure programs meet accreditation standards.
Student Academic Development
- Identify at-risk students and develop interventions.
- Provide counseling, monitor progress, and make referrals.
Administration
- Maintain attendance and results records.
- Assist with student registration and supervise assessments.
- Participate in departmental committees.
Quality Assurance
- Contribute to QA processes and feedback mechanisms.
Academic Management
- Contribute to policy development and set objectives.
- Participate in reviews and manage tutor activities.
Personal/Professional Development
- Stay updated with developments in the field and professional conduct.
- Engage in professional development activities.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Prepare reports and communicate with stakeholders.
