Qualifications

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will complete mapping of terrain and surficial materials at scales of 1:20,000 to 1:500 using primarily digital aerial photographs in a softcopy environment and, to a lesser extent, LiDAR data where available.
  • You will work cooperatively with other WSP surficial geologists and terrain scientists to successfully deliver products on time and within budgets.
  • You will actively participate in WSP’s HSSE program and commit to a safe work environment.
  • You will interact with various other disciplines, including Geotechnical, Biophysical (including Soils), and Mining groups to scope projects, develop work plans, schedules and cost estimates, technical reports, and other deliverables.
  • You will participate in or lead field surveys in remote locations.
  • You will manage or contribute to small- or medium-sized projects.
  • You will interact and communicate clearly with team members, client representatives, regulators, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • You will provide a commitment to quality.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in either Earth Sciences, Geology, (Geotechnical) Engineering, Soil Science, or Environmental Science
  • Minimum of two to five years of relevant environmental consultancy or government experience
  • Competent in ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro, Summit Evolution (DAT/EM) and/or PurVIEW
  • Demonstrated airphoto interpretation experience in classifying and mapping surficial materials, depth to bedrock/overburden thickness, topography, soil drainage and on-going geomorphological processes such as landsliding, groundwater seepage, permafrost degradation, etc.
  • Sound knowledge of Quaternary geology of Western Canada, including glacial history,
  • Experienced in the application of standards and protocols contained in (1) Terrain Classification System for British Columbia,(2) Guidelines and Standards for Terrain Mapping in British Columbiaand(3) Mapping and Assessing Terrain Stability Guidebook
  • Strong understanding of field inventory procedures, including field planning, logistics and implementation; field programs are generally undertaken with other disciplines but may be required to be completed independently; field programs may involve helicopter work and off highway vehicles
  • Registered with, or eligible for, registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC), the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA) or the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA)
  • Able to travel and work in remote areas as dictated by project demands
