Island Health is offering a full-time training opportunity for nursing staff, preparing them for roles in specialized departments. Successful candidates will transition into regular positions after completing the training, ensuring they meet the standards set by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
This position offers a regular full-time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff for work in a specified Island Health specialty department. Upon completion of the training, staff will be placed into a regular full-time rotation line within the specialty department they have been trained for.
Note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the Island Health specialty department for which they have been trained. Staff may transfer between Island Health departments within that specialty. The post-basic training program requires full-time attendance. Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in hospital or community settings in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.
Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant, with two years' recent related medical and/or surgical experience. Upon completing this specialty training, staff will be transitioned into a regular position within the specialty department.
