Job description

The successful candidate will provide senior leadership in the Surface Water / Hydrology discipline while supporting initiatives and growth of all water resources disciplines. This is a senior level role which requires the incumbent to have a strong technical, project management, and leadership expertise within an environmental consulting environment. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and mentorship of key individuals within the surface water practice area, as well as developing and maintaining expertise in their technical discipline.

The role of Senior Water Resources is expected to demonstrate expert level experience as a surface water engineer / scientist, including hydrologic analysis, flood mitigation, river engineering, hydraulic infrastructure analysis, and design. They will be key into developing and growing a well-rounded and diverse water business as Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. grows into a national consulting firm.

Please note that the successful candidate may be located near the tri-city areas of Waterloo, Kitchener, or Cambridge, with the physical office located in Guelph.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Designing surface water management infrastructure from conceptual level to construction;
  • Leading surface water resources projects, including watershed management, impact assessments, natural channel design, flood mapping, and environmental compliance and permitting;
  • Managing projects including technical work delivery, budget, schedule, and communications for both large and small multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Developing technical engineered solutions for surface water projects including erosion and scour protection, river engineering, stormwater management, and flood mitigation;
  • Screening opportunities and preparing proposals;
  • Developing, managing, and servicing clients;
  • Collaboration with other senior staff and mentoring of intermediate and junior personnel;
  • Continuing professional development for maintaining current knowledge of professional standard practice;
  • Other duties may be required to support the growth of the Water Resource team.

What You Bring :

  • Degree in Water or Environmental Engineering or similar (preferably a graduate degree related to surface water engineering) or degree in hydrology, geomorphology or water quality.
  • Prior consulting or regulatory review experience in water resources engineering, design, and construction of hydraulic infrastructure assessments related to hydrology, flood assessment / mitigation, and hydraulic structures would be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a consulting environment with applicable knowledge in water resources projects.

Other Knowledge and Skills :

  • Good communications and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of hydrogeological assessment, water quality, and aquatic affects, and how it all ties together;
  • The individual must possess an ability to work independently and within a team environment as well as an exceptional work ethic;
  • Must be a registered professional engineering and / or professional geoscientist designation in ON, BC, AB, or SK;
  • Have a valid (non-GDL) Class 5 driver’s license.

Working Conditions :

  • Majority of the time, working in an office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, with potential for prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens manual requiring dexterity;
  • Working for long hours, when required, with occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations;
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and / or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
