Job description

Can you see yourself providing overall leadership and supervision to the Stores Department? If so, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Storeskeeper Lead Hand to monitor receiving, storage, site inventory, and site material movement, as well as schedule and lead the work of the Storeskeepers within the department. What will you be doing!
  1. Monitoring Storeskeepers for timely and efficient delivery of site mail, water and materials.
  2. Monitoring or assisting Stores personnel in all phases of control for materials.
  3. Monitoring all shipping, receiving, warehousing, and issuing services.
  4. Working with CNL purchasing to help expedite accurate receipt and timely payment.
  5. Verifying invoices for payment approval by Management.
  6. Ordering/requesting non-inventory items for Stores department as needed.
  7. Collecting and entering information on the Government website for the sale of surplus materials/assets and assisting in the disposition of these items.
  8. Keeping accurate records of materials.
  9. Issuing requisitioned material, equipment and supplies; reviewing order points; conducting physical inventories/cycle counts.
  10. Assisting requisitioners by answering enquiries or supplying information on Store services.
  11. Operating computer equipment associated with an Automated Procurement System (APS).
  12. Inspecting all packages (materials, equipment or supplies) for damage and completeness prior to delivery/shipment as needed.
  13. Recording returnable container demurrage and deposits.
  14. Expediting the return of all incorrect inventory material received against standing/blanket and direct quality assurance (QA) orders.
  15. Maintaining required statistics and generating monthly reports as required.
  16. Providing assistance to QA personnel in understanding the APS.
  17. Verifying fuel invoices and cylinder demurrage rental invoices.
  18. Supporting the Department Section Head in maintaining Stores staff training.
  19. Locating suppliers, expediting transactions with suppliers, Purchasing, and Accounts Payable as required.
  20. Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Grade 12 or equivalent in technical training and/or experience.
  • Experience
    • Five (5) years of relevant experience in a Central Stores facility with responsibility for shipping, receiving and stock issuing using an electronic database.
    • Minimum one (1) year related supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
    • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
    • Forklift operator certified.
    • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of an organization.
    • Must be committed to fundamental, continuous improvements in a changing work environment.
    • Strong leadership skills to foster a positive team environment.
    • Trained in handling of Workplace Hazardous Materials.
    • Thorough knowledge of Purchasing and Stores procedures, Oracle 11i purchasing and procurement software, freight invoicing process, Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Knowledge of external industry standards regarding storage and movement of materials, and customs requirements.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
  • Must possess physical agility necessary to perform all work aspects involving bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.
  • It can involve a lot of walking and stair climbing.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures ranging from +30 to -40 C.
