Job Description

This position is located in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. The Hudson Bay OSB Mill is a market-focused, quality-oriented Strand Board (OSB) operation. The mill includes a Log Yard, Green End, Drying, Pressing, Finishing, and Shipping departments, as well as Maintenance/Engineering. The annual production is 540 million board feet. The workforce of approximately 160 employees is represented by the United Steelworkers Union (USW).

Key Functions
  1. The Production Supervisor reports to the Production Manager.
  2. The Production Supervisor acts as a coach for associates in all aspects of work.
  3. Provides daily focus on safety adherence, along with direction in housekeeping, environmental, quality, productivity, and cost efforts.
  4. Is a safety-driven leader and practices active caring, hands-on involvement in housekeeping, quality, productivity, and cost initiatives.
  5. Plans and leads effective pre-shift meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  6. Promotes change and growth as essential to sustained success, establishing trust with associates through support, goal setting, action planning, and follow-up.
  7. Establishes performance standards, works with associates to meet behavioral expectations, and promotes team ownership of their areas and equipment, fostering pride in the mill.
  8. Interfaces with other supervisors to maintain standards in safety, housekeeping, and performance.
  9. Participates in the selection of new employees and provides input to HR and Department Managers regarding employment, termination, and salary review decisions.
  10. Acts as a proactive leader in safety, waste reduction, quality, and productivity.
  11. Facilitates team meetings, motivates team members through goal setting, feedback, and performance evaluations.
  12. Assigns mentors to new associates for training and reliable methods instruction.
  13. Performs final qualification checks on tasks and job instructions.
  14. Leads the development of the operating team on troubleshooting, minor maintenance, machinery optimization, ensuring policy and procedure compliance.
  15. Supports organizational goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellent safety performance and ability to follow plant systems.
  • Experience in OSB operations, including blending, forming, pressing, and finishing.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate, and teach associates.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening skills, with knowledge of quality principles.
  • Working knowledge of the entire department preferred.
  • Proficiency in PC use, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and execution skills.
  • Adaptability to new situations.
  • Mechanical skills are a plus.
Compensation

This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, with a salary range of $88,500-$128,500 based on skills and experience. It also offers an annual incentive program with a target cash bonus of 7% of base pay, which may range from zero to twice the target.
