Job Description

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE), the Journeyman Electrician will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the PCR (Power Control Room) Wiring department. The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the integration of buildings and the manufacturing process associated with PCR integration. The Journeyman Electrician will provide guidance to Apprentices and Electrical Integration Technicians.

  1. Perform industrial electrical services in accordance with standard practices and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Part 1), including the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and utility systems.
  2. Perform services such as installation of electrical equipment and components, cable tray, conduits, cable and wire, heat trace, grounding and bonding, terminations, and testing.
  3. Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and components to repair and restore them.
  4. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and defects, ensuring compliance with codes.
  5. Test electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and components using various tools and equipment.
  6. Assist Lead Persons with training and mentoring of other employees.
  7. Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  8. Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
  9. Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of motors, MCCs, PLCs, transformers, and small utility distribution within Modular E-Houses.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and electrical codes related to manufacturing.
  • Understanding of electrical design and equipment.
  • Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable, adhering to Powell’s core values.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a “can-do” attitude, collaborating to solve problems and drive results.
  • Approaches work systematically to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes, and product changes.
  • Effective at diagnosing problems and influencing proper actions.

  • Basic command of English, both written and verbal.

Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal certification.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with conduit (EMT, Rigid), termination of PLCs and controls.
  • HVAC experience is an asset.
  • Safety certifications are an asset.
  • Pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing required.

Working Conditions

  • Safety-sensitive environment in manufacturing or industrial setting with occasional outside activities.
  • Mandatory use of PPE at all times.
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Work at heights up to 30 feet with proper equipment.
  • Work around loud machinery.

Physical Requirements

  • Maintain body balance and agility.
  • Bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Stand and walk for long periods.
  • Use upper extremities exerting force up to 20 lbs.
