Job description

Manager will be expected to manage the Tax Operations Onboarding Team within RBC Capital Markets and provide Tax Operations Regulatory Subject Matter Expertise within a global framework, covering a broad base of products and services. Responsibilities include managing the Tax Operations Onboarding Team functions related to the collection and review of tax documentation for multiple Tax Regimes. This team will be aligned with other functional units within RBC CM that currently support RBC CMs businesses and will roll up within the wider Client Shared Services Team (CST).

What will you do?
  1. Ensure local compliance of RBC tax obligations by overseeing the timely and accurate tax onboarding of clients in accordance with in-scope Tax Regulations administered by the Tax Operations Team.
  2. Manage the daily activities of the Tax Onboarding Team for RBC CM business units, including timely and accurate indexing of tax obligations in TORC (Tax Operations Regulatory Control) resulting from new client, product, account, and agreement identification by CM Tax Operations.
  3. Oversee outreach to clients to obtain valid and up-to-date tax documents, self-certifications, public documents, and cure documents necessary for successful Tax Onboarding.
  4. Manage relationships with third-party tax form repositories and service providers to obtain tax documentation, raise new requests, and maintain open documentation collection cases.
  5. Facilitate collaboration and escalation between CM Tax Ops and clients/counterparties, expediting issues while managing expectations regarding the validity of tax documents.
  6. Maintain clear and accurate audit status regarding outreach and follow-ups, including evidence of dates, persons involved, and communications undertaken.
  7. Oversee initial cursory review of tax forms to ensure they meet validation standards, including completeness, form version and type, and signatures/dates. Return forms to clients if immediate issues are identified and send to Tax Ops for further review.
  8. Work with Tax Operations to prioritize tasks in TORC based on Tax Regulatory exposure and risk.
  9. Oversee tax documentation remediation activities to obtain updated valid tax documents from clients based on expiration, GIIN verification, and changes in circumstances, within prescribed calendar periods.
  10. Establish best practices to ensure clients, counterparties, and internal partners receive appropriate attention and queries are resolved promptly.
  11. Produce and present KPIs and KRIs to measure performance and risk against SLAs, conducting monthly analysis meetings with CM Tax Ops.
  12. Provide evidence, sample packs, and walkthroughs for controls testing, attestations, certifications, and audits.
  13. Support internal projects, including system testing, ensuring team and process updates in response to changing tax regimes.
  14. Participate in new business and system initiatives, assessing impacts and updating policies and procedures accordingly.
  15. Support staff development through objective setting, performance reviews, and training to address skill gaps.
  16. Participate in talent reviews, providing quarterly feedback with an emphasis on succession planning.
What you need to succeed?
Must have’s
  • University Degree in a Financial or Economic sector (preferred).
  • 3-5 years management experience in financial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Capital Markets products, practices, and trading strategies across asset classes.
  • Familiarity with entity structures and RBC’s business relationships impacting jurisdictional tax responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong understanding of US and other jurisdictional withholding and reporting regulations.
  • Good knowledge of Capital Markets products and transaction types related to US Tax Documentation.
