Job description

We are looking for an On-Call Education Assistant to support students at the Okanagan Indian Band Cultural Immersion School, nkmaplqs i snmamayatn kl sqilxwtet.

If you enjoy working with children one-on-one or in small groups within a classroom setting and supporting their education, this position is for you!

The Education Assistant supports the Classroom Teacher with students who require extra support, including those with high needs. The role involves providing a solid and safe foundation that fosters the student's physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and cultural development.

Supports Needed
  • Assist Teachers with organization of materials and lesson preparation
  • Assist Teachers with small group instruction under the direction of the classroom Teacher
  • Provide one-to-one support for students in literacy and math
  • Assist Teachers in identifying ways to help and support student learning outcomes
  • Follow and contribute to Individual Education Plans and SMART Goals, continually assessing student progress and recommending adjustments to meet IEP goals
  • Assist in managing classroom expectations through positive reinforcement
  • Be a positive role model for behaviour; practice respectful interactions with students and adults
  • Supervise outside play at recess and lunch, during field trips, and assist with other supervision duties as required
  • Manage incidents involving students to ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with parents
  • Assist in providing emergency services as required during emergencies; duties may differ from regular responsibilities
  • Participate in staff language classes
  • Assist in delivering language instruction to students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Certified Education Assistant preferred
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Two years of experience as an Education Assistant preferred
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students and their parents
  • Experience working with First Nations communities

Preference may be given to those with knowledge of Okanagan culture and traditions.
