The primary function of this position is to create, prepare and deliver developmentally appropriate, interesting and imaginative activities for the children attending our program. The successful candidate will be able to meet the needs of each individual as well as the needs of the group in their daily practice. It is essential for the individual to have excellent interpersonal skills and work effectively within a dynamic, innovative team environment. Experience and/or training working with children with diverse needs is an asset. In addition, this individual will spend a lot of time outside and fulfill some light housekeeping duties.

APPLICANT MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE AT LEAST IN ORDER TO SUPERVISE CHILDREN BY THEMSELVES AS PER PROVINCIAL LICENSING RULES.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementing, and supervising of Daycare activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of children in the program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The Assistant Manager will support early childhood educators in their daily activities, assist with developing programs and activities for children, and promote a welcoming and positive environment. They will also assist the Childcare Services Manager with the hiring and orientation process, employee performance reviews, and with the day-to-day operations of the programs. The Assistant Manager will build positive and respectful relationships with children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensure safety and welfare of each child, educators and visitors to the program
  2. Coordinate staff scheduling
  3. Support the educators with planning, documentation and understanding of Flight, Alberta’s curriculum framework
  4. Ensure educators are designing and maintaining a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children
  5. Maintain close communication with fellow educators on the development and progress of each child, offering support and guidance if needed
  6. Supervise, support and mentor all educators, practicum students and administrative staff
  7. Participate in the hiring and orientation of new educators
  8. Promote and maintain harmonious relationships between childcare staff
  9. Encourage participation of all staff in problem solving independently
  10. Participate in room planning sessions to ensure well-coordinated and effective service delivery
  11. Deliver feedback and input to the manager for annual employee growth plans
  12. Prepare monthly newsletters and correspondence with families
  13. Organize, attend and participate in all staff meetings and team meetings
  14. Maintain provincial standards and regulations and keep up to date with current child care philosophy
  15. Initiate, establish and maintain a continuing positive and supportive relationship with families
  16. Perform parent orientations for new to Daycare families
  17. Explain the operation and functions of the childcare programs to parents, other educators and the community

The rate of pay will be based on the successful candidates’ level of certification.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  1. Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Educator Level 3 or higher certification (Level 2 is acceptable if working toward Level 3)
  2. Valid CPR & Childcare or Standard First Aid
  3. Demonstrated leadership abilities
  4. Favourable Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
  5. Understanding of Flight, Alberta’s ELCC curriculum framework is an asset
  6. Excellent oral and written skills
  7. Demonstrated leadership ability
  8. Sound knowledge of child development
  9. Ability to work in a confidential environment
  10. Excellent team player
  11. Ability to relate well to children, parents, colleagues, and community
  12. Compassion and humor
  13. Demonstrated ability to supervise children

The successful applicant will potentially work at both the Daycare and Out Of School care programs simultaneously.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months
Pay: $30.82-$33.56 per hour

Additional pay: Overtime pay

Schedule: Monday to Friday
