About this opportunity :

Note : At this time, Ericsson Canada Inc. does not provide immigration assistance or sponsorship now or in the future for this position.

Join our team as a Hardware Design Reliability Engineer and pioneer the integration of AI / ML-driven tools and methodologies to transform how we predict failure modes and ensure hardware reliability. In this role, you’ll collaborate across hardware domains from PCB design to thermo-mechanical analysis to embed reliability thinking early in the development cycle, leveraging advanced simulation tools and vendor partnerships to optimize design robustness. Your work will aim to reduce physical testing by building confidence in simulation accuracy, while delivering high-quality, reliable products. Lead global reliability initiatives, share expertise with engineers globally across R&D sites, and refine simulation workflows to drive innovation. If you’re passionate about merging AI, Multiphysics modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to solve complex engineering challenges, this is your opportunity to shape the future of hardware reliability.

What You Will Do :

  • Proactively collaborate with design engineers in cross-functional teams to integrate reliability and robustness into hardware design from early development stages and investigate problems related to new building practices early in the projects.
  • Partner with the quality team to analyze field failures, perform data-driven root cause investigations, and translate insights into design improvements.
  • Work with producibility engineers to incorporate feedback from prototypes and released products, addressing challenges like PCB production, solder joint fatigue, and SMT mounting.
  • Plan and support end-to-end failure analysis of components in collaboration with internal labs globally.
  • Collaborate in reliability and robustness framework groups. Align, collaborate, and deliver on global strategies and efforts.
  • Drive and collaborate in studies within the hardware quality and reliability area.
  • Leverage reliability simulations (e.g., ANSYS Sherlock, MATLAB Predictive Maintenance Toolbox, Internal Prediction tools) to calculate MTBF, time-to-failure, and derating analysis, enhancing risk identification accuracy.
  • Focus on board-level design, identifying failure mechanisms using data pipelines to predict fatigue, thermal cycling, and material degradation.
  • Ensure compliance with design guidelines, standards, and component specifications.
  • Develop mission profiles and simulation flows with Multiphysics tools (e.g., ANSYS Sherlock) to predict reliability at component and product levels, reducing physical testing.
  • Optimize design parameters early in the cycle using Ericsson’s generative AI and predictive analytics to improve reliability models and their outcomes.
  • Plan and execute reliability testing in internal and external labs as per project needs.

Skills You Bring : Qualifications :

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in reliability engineering, mechanical / electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Up to 3 years of experience, with expertise in electronics design, PCB analysis, component technology, physics of materials, and AI-enhanced CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS Sherlock, ANSYS Mechanical, MATLAB, ReliaSoft Weibull++).
  • Proficiency in probability theory, statistics, and reliability model development for risk quantification.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with Multiphysics simulation workflows.
  • A collaborative mindset, self-motivation, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Good to Have :

  • Experience with AI / ML frameworks for predictive analysis.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, FMEA, or AI-driven digital twins (e.g., ANSYS Twin Builder).
  • Familiarity with wireless standards (5G, NR) and system-level requirements for complex products.
  • Exposure to generative design tools or manufacturing process AI analytics.
  • Programming skills such as Python, R, Java, etc.

Why join Ericsson?

At Ericsson, you’ll have an outstanding opportunity to use your skills and imagination to push the boundaries of what’s possible. To build solutions never seen before to some of the world’s toughest problems. You’ll be challenged, but you won’t be alone. Join a diverse team of innovators driven to go beyond the status quo and craft what comes next.
