Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Health Services for Community Living (HSCL) Nurse participates in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating health services for adult clients/patients with developmental disabilities across various settings, aligned with the Vision and Mission of Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). The nurse utilizes clinical expertise to serve as a resource, providing consultation and in-service education to nurses, physicians, program teams, service providers, and caregivers regarding client care and treatment. The nurse also advises caregivers, delegates nursing tasks, conducts client assessments, and provides health education in group and individual settings. Direct client care, teaching, and problem-solving are integral to this role.

Travel Requirements

This position involves travel; transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements and may include the use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN.
  • Graduation from a recognized nursing program or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • At least three (3) years of recent, relevant experience, including two (2) years working with adults with developmental disabilities in the community.
  • Knowledge of current theories, practices, legislation related to caring for the developmentally disabled, and education principles for children and adults.
