Position Overview

Under the direction of the Clinical Resource Nurse (N3) or designate, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will assist in providing care to residents using the nursing process as a framework for performance. The LPN is responsible for delivering professional practical nursing services to designated patients, including independent nursing services, administration of prescribed treatments, collaboration within the healthcare team, and participation in patient care coordination and discharge. Demonstrates a commitment to the region/facility/unit's vision, values, goals, and objectives.

Experience
  • Previous experience in acute care and/or Personal Care Home is an asset.
  • Recent, related experience in the applicable clinical area may be required or preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Education program required.
  • Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM) required.
  • CPR training as per employer policy.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of:
    • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
    • Scope of practice as per the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care related to the clinical area.
    • Legislated acts including PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, and Universal Precautions.
    • Roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members.
    • Principles of delegation.
  • Preference for applicants proficient in Indigenous languages or knowledgeable about Indigenous customs and traditions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate care, respond to multiple demands, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Proficiency with computers and software such as Windows, Word, spreadsheets, and databases.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.
  • Rotating shifts and weekends may be required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is current if obtained within six months prior to employment.
