Position Overview

The Registered Nurse - MD / Resource Nurse reports to the Director of Care. This role involves overseeing resident-focused care, providing leadership and education to healthcare team members, and acting as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff. The nurse promotes the values, goals, and philosophy of the home.

Responsibilities

  • Support registered staff in various programs such as Skin Care & Wound Management, Falls Prevention, Continence Care, Infection Prevention & Control, Palliative Care, and Pain Management.
  • Conduct weekly physician rounds, transcribe and process orders, and notify physicians of changes in residents’ health status.
  • Assist with admission audits and ensure compliance through regular audits and follow-ups.
  • Monitor physicals, residents’ wishes, lab orders, supplies, and immunizations.
  • Participate in medication reconciliation and guide staff on best practices.
  • Mentor and coach registered staff, identifying educational needs for capacity building.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent licensing in another Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Basic CPR certification.
  • Experience in long-term care is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS; AIS certification preferred or to be completed within one year.
  • Ability to relate to residents empathetically and legally, including providing a current Vulnerable Sector Check and TB testing results.
