Job Summary

The Signals and Communications (S&C) Quality Assurance Supervisor – Eastern Region is responsible for managing installation projects, ensuring that preparation and in-service testing are completed according to CN’s standards. The role involves material acquisition, tracking project timelines, interfacing with Signal Design Engineers, testing software, and preparing cutover and testing procedures. Additionally, the role collaborates with other department parts on budgets, project estimation, and site evaluation.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Project Planning
    • Prepare scope documents and submit to Signal Design for proposed projects.
    • Participate in site surveys to resolve reconstruction work and estimate costs.
    • Collaborate with local supervisors, Signal Design personnel, and managers on relevant projects.
    • Identify material, manpower, and design shortfalls.
    • Make corrections for efficient installation and budgeting.
    • Manage budgets for construction projects.
    • Develop pretesting and cutover plans for S&C projects.
  2. Procedures and Reports
    • Ensure all test procedures are followed and documented.
    • Assist in preparing credible reports on activation failures and other issues.
    • Remain alert and prepared for unusual conditions.
  3. Working Conditions
    • Work in both office and outdoor environments, often in various weather conditions.
    • Shift work including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
    • Available on-call 24/7 for critical incidents.
    • Travel frequently (about 60%), including overnight stays.
Requirements
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in Signals and Communications.
  • Experience with Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) is an asset.
Education/Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of college or technical school in Electrical or Electronics Technology is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • United States Operating Rules (USOR) Certification.
