What you will do
We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join our senior leadership team as the Senior Director of Core Technology Services. This pivotal role requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, operational excellence, and financial acumen in delivering world-class IT infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will manage our hybrid environment, integrating on-premises systems with cloud services, while cultivating a high-performing team culture, driving business outcomes, and ensuring financial stewardship. Reporting to the Managing Director and Chief Information Officer, you will play a critical role in shaping our technology landscape's future.

Your Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence: Deliver reliable, scalable, and secure IT services that enable the Bank of Canada to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
  • IT Infrastructure Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive forward-thinking IT infrastructure strategy that aligns with the bank’s business goals.
  • Disaster Recovery: Ensure that the IT ecosystem is resilient and exceeds the disaster recovery (DR) plans and objectives for business continuity.
  • Innovation: Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies and trends that can enhance operational efficiency and business outcomes.
  • Cloud Services: Act as a broker of cloud services, ensuring we utilize the best tools and platforms to meet our business needs while optimizing costs and ROI.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with the bank’s standards for security, privacy, audit, and data protection across all systems.
  • Financial Oversight: Maintain robust financial oversight and ensure all investments are aligned with Bank of Canada’s priorities and strategies.
  • Vendor Management: Manage vendor relationships effectively and oversee vendor contract negotiations and management to ensure favorable financial terms for hardware, software, and cloud services.
  • Team Leadership: Advocate for a people-first approach by building, mentoring, and empowering a diverse team of professionals. Establish a culture and work environment that promotes excellence, teamwork, inclusivity, and psychological safety resulting in a positive employee experience

What you need to succeed

  • Extensive knowledge of infrastructure technologies and best practices, including migration strategies, data governance, cloud architecture, information security, compliance, and cost management.
  • Strategic planning expertise with the ability to execute key operational duties effectively.
  • Proven experience in both strategic and operational planning, successfully executing initiatives with a long-term horizon of three to five years.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with executives and senior leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost optimization for large-scale IT operations.
  • Effective leadership skills, with a proven ability to communicate a long-term vision and enhance team effectiveness.
  • Excellent organizational skills, adept at managing priorities in a dynamic environment, enhancing performance, and providing coaching, development, and guidance to employees.

Nice-to-have

  • Extensive expertise in Azure cloud services, with a solid understanding of other platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud.
  • In-depth knowledge of multi-cloud management strategies and cloud service brokerage principles.
  • Proficient in emerging technologies including AI, machine learning, and IoT, and their practical applications in business.

Your education and experience

  • This position requires a University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. An advanced degree and/or graduate degree would be considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant and progressive management experience.


In exceptional circumstances, an equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience in an area of current relevance or interest to the Bank may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Training may be provided to help reach the required level. Both bilingual and unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $220,362to $259,250 (job grade SO1)
  • The Bank offers an incentive forsuccessfully meeting expectations at10 to 15% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (10%) for those who exceed expectations.. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
  • Flexible and comprehensive benefits so you can choose the level of health, dental, disability and life and/or accident insurance coverage that meets your needs
  • An Enhanced Benefits Program for Senior Officers, which allocates an additional $5,000that can be applied toward supplementary benefits or be paid out to you in cash
