Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Research and Development Manager, the Senior R&D Draftsperson will ensure to meet submittal dates in a timely manner. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Research, design, and develop new products and/or systems by using 2D & 3D software (AutoCAD, Inventor, 3Ds Max);
  • Create die drawings and machine drawings for new systems/changes;
  • Create assembly and installation instructions for windows and railings to be used on job sites;
  • Create 2D drawings and 3D models to create libraries for other drafting teams;
  • Engaged in all steps from concept design to installation of a product;
  • Frequent visits to the back shop to review production and implementation of new parts;
  • Produce and provide specific files to operators that are required to run CNC machines;
  • Organize and keep up to date with all existing and new drawings/documents into company server for ease of access for all departments, as well as physical folders in storage;
  • Update Windows/Railing Basic Details Library and General Details to keep Engineering Departments up to date;
  • Prepare prototypes through new product realization (NPR) and change request (CR) as required to inform all stakeholders involved in the project with any changes in window and railing systems;
  • 3D printing of different components using 3D Printers;
  • Review and check samples from suppliers to develop custom shapes of components for windows and railing systems;
  • Provide detailed images and descriptions by taking photos of the assembly and installation process to use for training and guidelines for manufacturing;
  • Procurement, follow up, quality check, and store all samples required prior to actual production;
  • Organize and store products for archiving;
  • Conduct meetings to discuss/educate individuals on new systems and/or changes;
  • Assist all staff and workers for any query related to window/railing systems;
  • Work closely with software developers to add and update new components and deductions;
  • Attend training/conventions to improve current systems or implement new technology or software;
  • Attend testing at lab for new product evaluations;
  • Record, store, and organize all data as evidence for SR&ED; and
  • Any other tasks assigned by the R&D Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management;
  • Minimum 5 years of drafting experience required;
  • Knowledgeable in the construction/manufacturing industry and the products/systems;
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D), Inventor, and 3DsMax;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook;
  • Ability to design or complete fabrication drawings;
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to read blueprints;
  • Ability to act as a mentor to Junior R&D Drafters;
  • Ability to work on many projects that are large and complex;
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment requires wearing PPE for all site work and in certain other locations;
  • Light traveling to visit trade shows or conventions as required;
  • Flexible to work overtime as required.
