Job Title : Executive Pastry Chef – Commissary Kitchen Leader

Location : Within the Greater Toronto Area, exact location to be determined.

Start Date : Part time immediately, Full time January 2025.

Job Overview : We are seeking an experienced and innovative Executive Pastry Chef to lead the establishment and operations of a commissary kitchen that will service a diverse suite of businesses, including golf courses and organic grocery stores. The ideal candidate will create unique, health-focused baked goods with an emphasis on vegan, organic, wholesome, and traditional options. This role will involve using existing recipes and creating new ones to meet our high standards of quality and innovation.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the setup and management of a commissary kitchen to support multiple business units.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with ownership and business unit leaders across the organization.
  • Mentor and inspire a kitchen team, fostering a positive, adaptable work environment.
  • Actively listen to and communicate with stakeholders to ensure business needs are met.

Product Development & Quality Control :

  • Demonstrate expertise in pastry arts and creative dessert preparation, consistently delivering innovative and quality baked goods.
  • Maintain exceptional quality standards, focusing on the customer experience and satisfaction.

Food Safety & Sanitation :

  • Ensure strict adherence to all federal, provincial, and Health Canada guidelines related to food safety, including WHMIS, safe food handling, and hygiene practices.
  • Uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, ensuring compliance with provincial and organizational requirements.
  • Source ingredients from Canadian suppliers and small businesses whenever possible, supporting local and sustainable sources.
  • Develop relationships with packaging suppliers to ensure quality and sustainability in presentation.
  • Manage ingredient and production costs, keeping pricing competitive within the market.
  • Develop efficient workflows and processes to maximize kitchen productivity and minimize waste.
  • Monitor market trends in baked goods and suggest innovations to stay competitive.

Time Management & Problem Solving :

  • Exhibit excellent time management skills to produce high-quality items efficiently, even in high-volume settings.
  • Proactively address challenges in kitchen operations or production demands, demonstrating strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications :

  • Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, with a strong understanding of health-conscious baking, including vegan, organic, wholesome, and traditional options.
  • Knowledge of industry standards in pricing, presentation, and quality.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a talent for building positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and customer-oriented mindset.
  • Thorough understanding of food safety laws and sanitation requirements (WHMIS certification is an asset).
  • Demonstrated expertise in pastry arts and the ability to deliver creative, health-focused dessert options consistently.
  • Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, including baking, decorating, packaging, and plating.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexible to work at other locations for special events when needed.
  • College diploma in a related field or equivalent knowledge and work experience.
  • Culinary degree or certification from a recognized culinary institute.
  • 3 to 5 years experience.

This is a permanent position with The Company. You must be able to work in Canada.

Pay : $34.07 / hour this may range depending on experience (based on a 40 hour work week which may fluctuate by season).
