Job description

The Cultural Coordinator position is responsible for developing and delivering cultural and community projects and programming that incorporate traditional teachings and address the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of culture.

Primary Duties:
  • Coordinate cultural events such as the Shawanaga First Nation Annual Pow Wow.
  • Evaluate programs and events, reporting on outcomes.
  • Provide cultural support services to children and families upon request.
  • Organize and coordinate cultural workshops, teachings, ceremonies, and healing practices.
  • Maintain a roster of Elders, Traditional Advisors, and Healers for healing practices.
  • Assist in acquiring supplies, equipment, or funds for cultural functions.
  • Serve as a resource for cultural knowledge and practices.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Lead or participate in traditional or spiritual practices during meetings or events.
  • Attend training, seminars, workshops, and courses.
  • Review and recommend improvements to program policies and services.
  • Promote the agency’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Handle cheque requisitions and travel claims for programs.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in First Nation Studies or related programming.
  • Experience in project and financial management within community-based programming.
  • Knowledge of First Nations heritage, language, and cultural resources.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Commitment to personal healing.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with flexible hours as needed.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, management, community, and the public.
  • Proficiency in operating a desktop computer.
